Human Resource Information Dashboard (hrid.ril.com)

A CHRO-facing HR analytics dashboard built on SAP-HR (PA/PY/PT) data — delivering near real-time insight into headcount, payroll, attendance, and attrition with drill-down reporting from world map to employee level.

01. Introduction & Vision

The Human Resource Information Dashboard was designed to provide an intuitive, data-driven interface that enables the CHRO and apex leadership to visualize, analyze, and generate reports on key HR metrics. By tightly integrating with SAP-HR (PA/PY/PT) databases, the system delivers near real-time insight into Headcount, Payroll, Time Attendance, Training, Reimbursement, Qualification, Progression, Recruitment, Attrition, and other crucial HR parameters.

Strategic HR decisions are only as good as the data behind them — the dashboard's job was to make workforce data as easy to interrogate as a map, from the whole world down to a single employee.

02. Objectives

The dashboard was anchored on four measurable capabilities:

03. Approach

The dashboard was delivered across three phases — from scoping HR's real reporting needs to a trained, monitored production rollout.

🔍
Requirement Analysis & Design

Identified key business and HR reporting needs, defined data extraction, transformation, and visualization strategies, evaluated BI tooling options (Power BI, Tableau, in-house development), and designed a secure integration layer for SAP-HR data access.

🧩
Development & Implementation

Extracted, processed, and structured data from SAP-HR PA (Personnel Administration), PY (Payroll), and PT (Time Management); built dynamic, drill-down graphical reports; gave HR teams custom query and filter capability; implemented role-based access for data privacy; and optimised report generation through caching, indexing, and query tuning.

🚀
Deployment & Optimization

Conducted UAT with HR teams, optimised dashboard performance, accessibility, and user experience, provided documentation and training sessions, and monitored system performance to introduce ongoing enhancements.

04. Challenges & Solutions

Three structural challenges shaped the design of the dashboard. Each required a targeted engineering response rather than a generic reporting overlay.

Data Complexity & Integration

Challenge

Handling structured and unstructured data from SAP-HR PA, PY, and PT modules while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and synchronisation.

Solution

Established an optimised data warehouse to handle historical and real-time HR data through a secure, purpose-built integration layer.

Performance Bottlenecks

Challenge

Managing large datasets for real-time reporting without system lag, especially for drill-down and multi-level query execution.

Solution

Applied data caching, indexing, and pre-aggregated tables, backed by distributed computing and data compression techniques.

User-Centric Accessibility

Challenge

Designing an intuitive interface for non-technical HR users while ensuring compatibility across mobile, web, and tablet interfaces.

Solution

Built an interactive, visually engaging UX for HR professionals, tested for compatibility across mobile, desktop, and cloud-based platforms.

05. Solutions & Best Practices

Data Warehouse & Query Optimization

An optimised data warehouse handled historical and real-time HR data, while data caching, indexing, and pre-aggregated tables kept drill-down and multi-level report generation fast even as data volumes grew.

BI, Visualization & Role-Based Security

Visualization leaned on BI tooling (Power BI, Tableau, and SAP Fiori/UI5 patterns) for the graphical, drill-down experience, with RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) and Single Sign-On ensuring every user only saw the HR data their role permitted.

User-Centric Design & Multi-Platform Accessibility

An intuitive, visually engaging interface was designed specifically for HR professionals rather than technical users, with distributed computing, caching, and data compression keeping the experience responsive across mobile, desktop, and cloud-based platforms.

06. Technology Stack

The dashboard was built as a .NET application layered directly on SAP-HR, with BI patterns borrowed from industry-standard visualization tooling.

Application Layer

Dot Net Third Party Libraries

Data & Reporting

MS SQL Server

Source System

SAP ECC 6.0 SAP-HR PA/PY/PT

BI & Visualization Patterns

Power BI Tableau SAP Fiori/UI5

07. Conclusion

The HR Information Dashboard delivered data-driven insights that empowered HR teams to make informed decisions. By integrating directly with SAP-HR, the platform delivered real-time, interactive reports with deep analytical capability. With security, scalability, and user experience at its core, the system enhanced workforce management and strategic HR planning for the CHRO and apex leadership.

A dashboard earns its place on the CHRO's desk not by having more charts, but by letting one click go from "the whole organisation" to "this one employee" without losing trust in the number.
